Artist Statement: “Reflecting on the notion of a superfood, this series playfully explores what can represent a pixel, as well as the historical relationship between food and art. Popular superhero icons Batman and Superman are constructed using delicious pop art-like pixels of toast, where each individual piece of toast is representative of a single pixel. Food is an essential element to life and has been an important subject in art throughout history. Likewise, a pixel is an essential building block of an image. Through the use of artificially coloured toast pixels, the meaning of superfood is playfully contradicted; toxic toast as opposed to super health.”
